Aquaventure (formerly known as Aquamira) from McNett is a simple and effective way to purify water obtained from natural sources. It uses chlorine dioxide and leaves no aftertaste (unlike some other chemical water purification products). Unlike lengthy pump filtering, it won't leave you exhausted!

Treatment takes about 20 minutes from taking water out of a stream to having it ready to drink. You mix drops from each of the two small bottles in the provided cap, and leave it 5 minutes to activate before pouring the active mixture into your water container: 15 minutes later it's safe to drink.

What can work very well when you arrive at your chosen camping spot is to mix the drops, go and fill your water container (Chris uses an easy to pack nylon water bag from Ortlieb), then add the activated mix. By the time you have pitched your tent and unpacked, your water is ready to drink.

One small pack of Aquaventure treats up to 120 litres of water: enough for one person for a month at 4 litres a day!
