Backpacker's Pantry Meals
Located in the foothills of the USA's Rocky Mountains in Boulder, Colorado, Backpacker's Pantry is a family business, founded in 1951. Their freeze-dried meals are well-known by American hikers and backpackers. A selection of Backpacker's Pantry vegetarian meals are now being imported into the UK.
Backpacker's Pantry meals are all of the "cook in the pouch" type: simply add boiling water, close the pouch and wait 13 minutes. The portions are generous, with high calorific values. These packs are described as containing two servings by Backpacker's Pantry, but we feel that they are more realistically suitable for one hungry person (this concurs with Chris's own use of Backpacker's Pantry two-person meals in the USA on the Pacific Crest Trail).

We've selected our meals from the Backpacker's Pantry range on the basis of good flavour and interest: we want our vegetarian customers to eat just as well as our meat-eating customers! Whilst some vegetarian options can be dull and tasteless, we think you'll like these ones.
Particular favourites of ours are Pad Thai, with plenty of peanut flavour, and Wild West Chilli and Beans, which is spicy and packed full of interesting flavours.
In case you were wondering, the reason that only vegetarian Backpacker's Pantry meals are available is that the regulations regarding the import of meat-based products into the UK are very complex and the requirements mean it is unlikely that we will see Backpacker's Pantry meat-based meals here anytime soon, if at all.
