Drytech Real Turmat Meals
Drytech are based in Tromso, up above the Arctic Circle in Norway. The Real Turmat meals (also known as Real Expediton Meals) are made mostly from fresh natural Norwegian ingredients and carefully freeze dried. Drytech have developed their own freeze drying process, which is designed to keep as much of the natural taste, aroma, appearance and nutrition of the meal as possible.

Folk who have used the Real Turmat meals are typically very enthusiastic about them, and we'd agree with their enthusiasm! Some would consider these to be the Rolls Royce of freeze dried meals. They have strong natural flavours and good texture. Of particular note are the tasty sauces and good-sized pieces of meat or fish.
Real Turmat meals are all of the "cook in the pouch" type: simply add boiling water to the indicated fill mark, stir, close the pouch and wait 5 minutes or so before eating. We have found that it is often best to wait a little longer to ensure that the meal is fully hydrated. Sometimes adding a little extra water gives better results too. The portions and energy provided are good. Pricing is higher than other brands, but this does reflect the very high quality as well as the import costs.

The Beef and Potato Casserole is one of our favourites: it has good-sized pieces of beef together with carrot, swede, onion and mashed potato, and of course that famous Real Turmat tasty beef sauce. Another meal which Chris particularly likes is the Cod and Potato Casserole: cod with carrot, green pepper and onion in mashed potato and a creamy sauce with plenty of flavour. If you are fond of strong flavours try the Game Casserole which is made with reindeer meat: it's a slightly gamey flavour, similar to venison but perhaps stronger.
