When you've added boiling water to your "cook in the pouch" meal and sealed it up, you need to wait from 8 to 10 minutes before it's ready to eat. The Outdoors Grub Pouch Snug insulates your meal whilst it's rehydrating, so when it's ready to eat your food is piping hot!

The Pouch Snug is made from a special insulating material: polyethylene bubble (like bubble wrap) with aluminium foil on both sides. The foil adds to the insulation and protects the polyethylene bubble. The whole material is 4mm thick. Aluminised tape is used to construct the snug, making it neat, robust and lightweight.

We've sized the Pouch Snug to fit all the meals we stock (the Mountain House pouches are the largest) and in our tests we found it works really well. You can find similar products on the market at four times the cost!

To use the Pouch Snug:

  • Open up the base of your meal pouch, tear the top off and open the press-seal. Add boiling water as usual.
  • Stir well and close the press-seal. Stand the pouch on the ground.
  • Now simply place the Pouch Snug over the pouch.
  • After the indicated time for your meal, remove the Pouch Snug, open the pouch press-seal, stir well and enjoy!

Other pouch insulators are complete bags, meaning you have to fit the water-filled pouch into the insulated bag and then close a flap. We think this is clumsy and unnecessary: you don't need to insulate the base of the pouch as the "stand-up" part of the pouch ensures an insulating air gap between the food and the ground.

To clean the Pouch Snug simply wipe it with a damp cloth. Do not immerse it in water or use detergent, which may affect the adhesives used.
